Everyone makes assumptions. This is a fact of life. As a scientist, I’m used to making assumptions. I assume that the laws of Physics are the same everywhere in the Universe. It seems to work. There’s no real a priori reason that this should be true but we like to write coherent theories that can be used to make real predictions. Like I said before, it seems to work. There are many assumptions that people make on a daily basis that are more than acceptable. For example, you see a green crossing signal and you assume that the traffic is going to stop to let you cross the road. This is pretty reasonable though, if a driver hits you, they’re in some serious trouble with the law. I do always have a good look around before I step into the middle of the road, despite the signal to go. I simply trust my eyes more than a traffic signal.
